This weeks photo of the week by our IG friend @pradaguy is a little different to our normal choice. No sunsets or views across infinity pools. This week it’s the stunning garden view at Shangri La Putrajaya in Malaysia.
This week we head south, away from the cold and snow, to Brazil’s famous Ipanema Beach and the breathtaking Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro. Designed by Philippe Starck the hotel is the home of glamour and sophistication in the city of Rio.
Hotel hallways and the photos people take have come a long way since Stanley Kubrick’s original horror hallway scene in the classic Jack Nicholson film The Shining. RoomCritic has found 10 stunning hotel hallway photos (or the modern day equivalent) from the RoomCritic photo archives and the #roomcritic Instagram tag gallery that are anything but scary.
With two new hotels opening over the festive season, and the newly renovated W New York in Union Square, the neighbourhood is set to have a very happy new year with a total of 577 new designer luxury rooms and suites.
Our latest hotel crush at RoomCritic is Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich. Located in Tianhe, the financial and commercial district of Guangzhou, China. The hotel facilities include 493 spectacularly designed rooms and suites. There are 5 bars and restaurants, the award winning SoSpa, 24-hour fitness centre and an indoor pool with underwater music. Yes underwater music. How awesome is that.

Very exciting news that Wallpaper*, one of our favorite city guides, has expanded their selection of apps to 60 destinations, from the initial 10.
The handy, lightweight books have always been one of our travel essentials, with their tightly edited selection of hotels, landmarks, architcture, shopping and urban life. Having the most up-to-date information available on my iPhone while I am in a new city is even more useful. Version 2.0 of the guides offers a new design which is iPad friendly, allowing us to enjoy the app in our hotel room to plan the next day’s activities.
Of course, we will continue to buy the book version of the guides to add to our travel bookshelf. Thumbing through these has become part of the enjoyment of planning and anticipating an upcoming trip.
