RoomCritic Hotel App Review – W Hotel for iPhone

RoomCritic Hotel App Review – W Hotel for iPhone.

So there’s an iPhone or iPad app for just about anything, right. But when it comes to the growing list of apps created by hotels and resort brands the majority of apps are all very samey. Most have boring design and offer limited functionality with the same kind of features you’d expect to find on the website. Search, book, view, map, offers, check your rewards balance blah, blah, bland.

So, what makes a hotel app good then? Something unexpected is a start. We’ve taken the W Hotel app for a test run to let you know if its worth downloading to your iPhone.

The W Hotel app.

Overview. The simple design is exactly as you’d expect from the hip boutique brand. 4 menu options to choose from. W Music, W Store, Find and book and special offers. The app was a bit slow at start up as well as some slow functions. There are a number of buttons that are a bit small and fiddly.

Best Feature. The W Music tab is very good. 6 music channels with music with about an hour of music on each channel. The choice of music ranges from lounge to full on party dance tunes. A great way to extend your W Hotel experience or get a sample of what you can expect on your stay. There is only one let down with it though and it’s not the apps fault. This feature would have reached awesome status if the W Hotel actually offered iPod music players in the rooms. I think W Hotels have missed a trick here.

Worst Feature. Unfortunately the Store and Special offers tabs look like they are web pages being fed into the app. These pages are not mobile friendly with type and images too small to view on the iPhone screen. This was a bit of a let down really.

Would we use it? Yes.
