RoomCritic’s Travel Gift Guide for 2014

The year’s best gifts for the travellers in your life. Assuming you received everything from our last gift guide that you desired, we have scoured the Internet and our own wish lists to compile more of the best gifts for travellers.

At the top of our list, has to be the new iPad Airipad air

The new iPad Air has all the fabulous features that makes traveling with an iPad great: beautiful Retina screen, fast performance, useful travel apps, FaceTime and iSight cameras, and advanced Wi-Fi, and access to fast cellular data networks around the world. It has all the benefits of an iPad Mini, but with the Retina screen size of a regular iPad, though much lighter, and with more power than ever. From $598.

Of course you will need a chic and practical case to carry your new iPad around. We love the Want Les essentials de la Vie Capital iPad sleeve ($195), though you could buy us anything from their awesome travel range and we would be very happy!

Our current favourite bag to use on board is the Goyard Saint-Louis. Available in a rainbow of colours and with custom personalization, this simple coated canvas tote bag with attached wallet fits everything. You can’t buy them online, so you need to head to a Goyard store to buy from this exclusive brand.
If its good enough for Kate Moss on a yacht, its good enough for us!

We love collecting chic travel guides and dreaming about our next trip, and they don’t get any more deluxe than the Louis Vuitton City Guides. For their 15th Anniversary, LV have released the 2014 collection.
The 15 City Guides are sold individually ($43), but we have the limited edition box set ($645) on our Christmas list. Louis-Vuitton-City-Guide-2014
Although we would love to receive the incredible XXL Collector’s Edition of the Design Hotels Book (at the top of the post), which comes with its own Artek table and stool for €2500, we would be quite happy with this year’s Design Hotels Anniversary Edition for €59 from the Design Hotel shop to add to our collection.

Exhibition A has collaborated with the artist Wes Lang to produce a selection of ten archival prints in a limited edition box set of 100.
This suite of exceptional stationery drawings was created during Wes Lang’s extended stay at the Chateau Marmont in 2011.

The prints come in an off-white, linen paper box with a deep scarlet interior and silver foiled logo on the front.  The series, entitled “Sittin’ on a Rainbow” was presented as a one-night-only exhibition in the Howard Hughes penthouse and is one of his most sought-after bodies of work. Unframed they are $950. wes lang
A gift any traveller would appreciate is a Get A Room! gift card from Mr and Mrs SmithMr & Mrs Smith - Gift card (1)
Stylishly presented in an intricate black display box designed, Get a Room! vouchers can be used toward the purchase of accommodation at any boutique hotel in the worldwide Mr & Mrs Smith collection.
Our definition of a perfect gift is something fabulous that the recipient will love, but would be unlikely to purchase for oneself. Cashmere track pants  certainly meet this brief. Perfect for long haul flights, or relaxing in the Chalet after a long day on the piste, these track suit pants provide an unparalleled blend of luxury and function.
We have chosen the Loro Piana men’s pants (£566.67) from Mr. Porter and Australia’s own Banjo & Matilda women’s pants (£275) from Net-A-Porter.

The Flight 001 4-in-1 Adapter ($25) is a little colour coded set of plugs that allows you to quickly adapt to over 150 countries!

This mini travel bar features a stainless steel hip flask with attached lid, and all of the accessories needed to mix the perfect cocktail in your hotel room or in transit,  in a simple black insulated case ($71.20).

The Scratch Globe is a gold foil coated map of the world which allows you to scratch off where you’ve been on your travels. When you’ve scratched off the country or continent you’ve been to, a rich and colourful map with geographical detail is revealed underneath ($32). scratch-off-globe-3

The Good Night Sleep Mask ($14.50) is not the most glamorous of items, but certainly an appreciated necessity for any frequent flyer. Designed to allow Rapid Eye Movement (REM), the ultra-soft Good Night Sleep Mask promotes deep, rejuvenating slumber. This lightweight, luxuriously cushioned mask blocks out light, and is specially moulded to allow complete eye movement (unlike many eye shades that can press against your eyes) for a deeper, more restful sleep.

Jonathan Adler’s Jet Set Coasters ($48) are a set of  glossy porcelain coasters with bold graphics that make these the perfect perch for a classic cocktail when home between trips.

For kids we love the cute and educational Zig Zag City Guides, $24. Available for NYC, SF, Rome and Paris. London to come in 2014. ZigZag_NYC_2_web

We absolutely love the adorable Fjallraven Kanken backpack in the mini size, €59.95, in every colour way you can imagine.

Mummy travel tip: Don’t forget to bring an iPad loaded with new unseen apps and videos to keep little people entertained on a long haul flight.
