There is no doubt 2013 was our biggest year ever, so we decided to bring you the big highlights from RoomCritic from the year just gone.
We’ve scrolled through 12 months of blog posts, hotel and resort gallery page stats from our website and blog plus our Instagram feed to find out what were 2013’s most viewed and most liked hotels, resorts, destinations and stories.
Here are the top destinations based on our most searched and viewed content.
Most Viewed Continent – Asia
Of the total 63 hotels and resorts on RoomCritic, 21 of those are in Asia with total of 27 rooms and suites featured. Each hotel, resort and room page has a continually updating gallery of photos and video directly linked to Instagram.
Most Viewed Country – Malaysia
By far the most popular country on the website and blog is Malaysia. The reason for this is the growing popularity of overwater bungalow resorts that aren’t in the Maldives or Bora Bora. We feature 3 Malaysian resorts on the website with overwater bungalows that are every bit as stunning as the more well known destinations. Those 3 resorts on RoomCritic.com also happen to be the most viewed resorts on the site – here they are in order of popularity.
Most Viewed Resorts
Kapalai Island Dive Resort is entirely over water with 45 overwater bungalow style cottages. Scuba diving is the main attraction and the resort’s name comes from the local dive spot.
The largest overwater bungalow resort in Malaysia (and the world) with 392 overwater villas built in the shape of a palm tree. AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort is located along the Malacca Straight and just 10 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, making it one of the easiest destinations to get to from anywhere in the world.
Occupying it’s very own private island off the coast of Malaysia – Pangkor Laut Resort is an exclusive, luxurious 5-star hideaway perfect for your honeymoon or romantic holiday. The resort features 45 overwater bungalows in two types, 100 rooms and suites, 7 bars and restaurants and the spa.
Most Viewed Hotels
When it comes to hotels featured on RoomCritic.com the results are much more varied. Here are the most popular hotels based on page views on the website.
A boutique, luxury hotel is located in Brooklet, in the stunning Byron Bay hinterland region. Whether you wish to detox or de-stress, Gaia provides everything you require to help you on your path.
A luxury design hotel in the popular Kowloon district with Michelin-rated restaurants, award-winning spa and the best shopping right at the door.
The Park Hyatt Sydney is a 5 star luxury hotel located opposite Sydney’s iconic Opera House in the The Rocks area of the harbour.
The most popular blog posts for 2013
Don’t get us wrong, at RoomCritic we love Bora Bora and the Maldives, but we love overwater bungalows more. So back on Feb 3 we decided to write about 8 of the best resorts from the rest of the world that also feature overwater bungalows. That post was this years biggest story. Here is the link.
The second most popular blog post was also about overwater bungalows and featured the 3 resorts from Malaysia mentioned above.
The third most popular blog post for 2013 was a post created back in 2012 and dedicated purely to vintage hotel postcard pictures of pools. No prizes for guessing which google search term was at top of the 2013 list of most searched words on the RoomCritic blog. Probably the most searched term for 2013 on Google too.
